"On January 30th, 37 ladies came together at MSC for a day to “Just Breathe. Be still and know that He is God.” It was a day of worship, fellowship, small group discussion, reflection and making of cards. After an hour of getting acquainted with one another, we listened to the Jonny Diaz song, “Just Breathe” to set the tone for the day:
'Alarm clock screaming bare feet hit the floor It’s off to the races everybody out the door I’m feeling like I’m falling behind, it’s a crazy life Ninety miles an hour going fast as I can Trying to push a little harder trying to get the upper hand So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life It’s ready, set, go it’s another wild day When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel You say just
Breathe, just breathe Come and rest at My feet And be, just be Chaos calls but all you really need Is to just breathe'
Then we spent some time gleaning insights from David, the Psalmist, in Psalm 131.
'1 My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content.
3 Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.'
We discussed how we can learn to quiet and calm ourselves like David did, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. Waiting before God, hushing our “inner noise”, yielding ourselves to God’s Holy Spirit, and remembering Who God is all help us find that inner quiet spirit aware of His presence that we desire.
Time was given for individual reflection on Psalm 131 as ladies spread all over the auditorium in attitudes of listening and waiting.
After a delicious catered lunch, art supplies were provided for us to make decorated Bible verse cards for girls in a tailoring school in India. Creative juices flowed as stickers, scissors and bright colors came together to make beautiful messages of hope for girls across the globe. The cards were collected for Phil & Debbie Peterson to hand deliver in India the following week.
In the afternoon, after basking in Kari Jobe’s song “He is Here”, we heard and discussed more about God’s desire for us to “Be still and know that I am God.” We must know Him to trust Him and the way to know Him is through His Word primarily.
Worship times were rich and many women shared insights gained from the various activities of the day. I would say that everyone who came was touched by God and inspired afresh to practice the art of being still before Him."
