Volunteering for AWANA
IMPORTANT — Parents are asked to serve one semester, each. Mom and Dad can serve together in one semester, OR the parents can serve individually—one in the fall semester and one in the spring. If only one parent can serve, we ask that they serve BOTH semesters.
Parents serving at AWANA request their roles on a first-come-first-serve basis. Below is a link for each semester’s roles that parents will use to sign up for the role they’d like to fill. Before you can register your child, you must fill out this form for EACH semester using separate links.
Descriptions of each role are provided below so that you can decide which role would suit you best:

- Cubbies Helper — You will be assisting Ms. April, our Cubbies Leader, with all of the activities planned for our youngest clubbers. This includes taking care of the Cubbies at the Welcome and Closing times, transitioning upstairs and downstairs, assisting with story time, puppeteering, craft/snack/handbook helper, and making sure Ms. April has all that she needs.

- Handbook Leader (Sparks/T&T)—Your role is to help our Sparks and T&T clubbers to recite their scripture verses and mark completion accurately in their handbooks. When they’re done saying verses, you will send them to a separate station in the hallway to get their Progress Checks and Awards. You will be expected to be with the clubbers during the Welcome and Closing times to make sure they behave in an orderly fashion.

- Games Coach—You will be in charge of making sure there are at least 3 games planned for each of the two older groups (Sparks and T&T) for 5 nights during the semester. You will be supplied with a book of game ideas for each age group, or you can make up your own fun games. Please feel free to use the supplies in our AWANA games bin to make the games more fun. Each group’s game time lasts ~25 minutes. On the other nights you aren’t leading games, you will be asked to help facilitate other activities such as team building challenges, board games, card games, etc. on a rotating schedule with our art nights.

- Subs—Subs are the superheroes of AWANA. You will not necessarily have to serve in one particular place each week, but will serve as a floater in any areas where we may need coverage. People who are unable to fill their role that evening will contact you to take their place.
- Nursery—You will be helping to care for and love on the little ones under age 3. Nursery helpers will follow a general schedule of activities including snack time, potty breaks/diaper changing, and other curriculum as supplied by MSK. Nursery helpers are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes early (by 6:15) each Wednesday night.
Once you have signed up for your volunteer roles for the year, a link to register your child will be sent to your email within 24 hours. If you do not receive a link and 24 hours have passed, please reach out to Kim Hungerford.
